I’ve just been reminded that Liz Truss still has her honours list to get allocated.
After Johnson’s efforts they should really just can her list.

Stands to reason that her list includes Lord Lettuce, and Dame Carrot. As PM Cabbage, All the vegetables look after one another...

Charlotte Owen is on that list and as I understand it has done nothing of public service other than being an advisor. She is also about 30. Very hard to imagine she has had time to do enough of value to earn a place in the Lords in the 8 years since she left uni.

She’s the youngest ever life peer. And as you say has done nothing to deserve a place in the lords. She could be making policy decisions for the next 50 years.
So much for unelected bureaucrats.
I’m staggered she passed the nomination process.

There’s a no doubt scurrilous rumour doing the rounds that Johnson is her biological father.

This is it exactly. These aren't OBE type gongs given out for entertainment or charity work. They're not recognition for entertaining us or doing good deeds; they are entry to the second chamber and a chance to influence the law of the land. An important role, dished out for doing sweet fa, to someone with barely any experience of anything. To be honest, anybody with any integrity would decline it.

Part of me *really* wants Charles to look at Priti Patel and Rees Mogg and go "I'm sorry. I'm not doing it".

When you take a look at who's allready in the house of Lords...it's hard to get angry about the latest lot.
It's just the establishment rewarding their own.

I don't disagree with this, but no one has ever earned a place in the Lords.

Earned is the wrong word. Deserves is probably a better word.
And whilst the Lords exists there needs to be peers to attend, so people need to be nominated. Whether you want it abolished or not.

I would think that Someone like Robert Winston deserves a place. He should be able of offer plenty of useful insight into complex medical and ethical matters from a non political viewpoint based on a life time of experience and expertise.
Admittedly he’s just one of many but there are exemptions.
I believe that Martin Lewis was nominated but was declined, which is an absolute scandal given the dross in there already.
