Stephen Mold, Conservative Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire needed to fill a vacancy for Fire Chief recently and who better than his good friend, Ms Nicci Marzec, with whom he hasn’t been in a long-term relationship and just happens to work for him already.
Ms Marzec has absolutely no operational experience for this kind of job, but that’s not a problem when your best mate’s a Tory and this new job would see your salary jump by 33% overnight to £139,000.

I'd sack the pair of them.
It's irrelevant to me one of them has political leanings of any sort.
Ms Marzec appears to be one of those individuals who has spent a career drawing large sums of public money for doing non-jobs.
Nice 'work' if if you can get it.
The crime commissioner appears to have misused his power of patronage, so he should be cattled for that, although goodness knows why he was given that power in the first place.
This thread is one of many (yawn) aimed at berating the Tories.
To put a political spin on this story, Labour will also find they will be corrupted by power and patronage, should they ever get any.
Labour runs almost everything on my patch.
There are too many examples to count of the Labour old boy network in full effect.
It's not the party affiliation that matters, it's the politicians' general inability to use their powers in the proper manner.

Not that anyone should feel too sorry for Ms Marzec because she will merely return to her non-job which only pays a lousy £100k rather than the fire chief's £130k+.

Might be a kick in the nuts for whoever has got her old job, if it has been filled yet.
No doubt they will take another scoop from the public purse and pay the pair of them £100k each.
There is presumably some process for getting rid of misbehaving commissioners, but I suspect your best bet as one of the little people is the ballot box.

In truth he should do the right thing and resign, but if doing the right thing was important to him he wouldn't be in this position.
When is he up for re-election? If he is re-elected next time then the public get what they deserve.

Private Eye has featured fairly regular articles about some of the Councils mentioned in the article and their disasterous attempts at "business", Property Development, Energy Companies, etc. Some Labour, some Conservative, all, at best incompetent.
