Interesting article..

Gives a hint as to why those who wish to control others sexual activity may also be the ones who tend towards religiosity.

Rather than religiosity in itself being a precursor to the desire to control.

As others have said the US theocratics are unlikely to stop at abortion bans.
They'll be coming for birth control next.

How about these men spend a lot more time controlling violent men, and their guns, the rapers, the abusers, the misogynists, the violent pornographies, and all the rest of their nastiness.

Stay away from women and their bodies, and the choices they make about their own fertility..

A long long way away from womens bodies, in fact.

Reading around the chip
Under Christian theology, a women who has consented to an abortion, and even more the attending physician has carried out something that is objectively morally wrong. A universal external standard has been broken that does not originate in subjective human thinking, where self is the point of reference. You won't agree with this (I would assume!), but I'm pointing it out to show why there can be no compromise on this issue
Is any clearer illustration needed of why 'Christian theology' should be kept out of the 'subjective human' realm in which all human lawmaking occurs and in which human subjects need actual human healthcare?

Nope not really.

But sadly religious zealotry seems to be inextricably bound up in lawmaking in the US..

And here in UK (to a lesser extent) too.

We still have 'reserved' spaces for bishops in the HoL...

The trouble is more with people who set themselves up as absolute authorities on what their particular holy books might mean. And the funny thing is how much they disagree amongst themselves.

Especially when it's been translated via various languages and iterations of idiom..

I mean it's only taken one generation in the same language for 'Glory hole' to go from meaning a quite innocent junk storage area..

..to quite something else altogether 🤔

Layer onto all those years, and language changes, all the political social and cultural biases, and commissioners of translations wanting 'their' angle on life promoted..

Then add to that the fact that nowadays we're allowed to be humanists without having or needing recourse to stories of the supernatural to decide a code of ethical behaviour..

It makes 'what the bible says' (or doesn't say) completely irrelevant when deciding how we should be, and act in the world as it is today .

That's Kevin Smith you're thinking of.

Nah. He didn't teach at my old school.

I seem to remember a priest telling us that angels had no need of orifices, at least not the 'lower' ones.

It doesn't even mean that, though ...

It's to do with partition walls, and gentlemans jumbly bits, and, and....

...well this is a 'family' site so I won't go into the details...😳

What's peculiar is that I have been aware of the term since the start of my erm, interest, in mucky words for base human behaviour, as a kid in the 70s. I have never been aware of it meaning anything other than the above lucid description!

Well there you go, even within the same generation, using the same language, whilst both living on the same island...

Misunderstanding abounds..

Now try several thousand years, across, continents, cultures, and multiple translations...

So how's about let's try.
