Quite right. It's not as if the man you want to put in charge of arguably our most important public service has an obvious case to answer about democracy, transparency, racism, misogyny and factional and workplace bullying. Or as if she's a human being or anything. Mind you, if I were a key beneficiary of the poisonous clique that have been conspiring to throw Abbott to the wolves, I'd probably want to keep schtum as well.

Sometimes, some people just have to go.

It's the price of failure.

Ah yes, those 'mates' whose potential indictment for war crimes his party has supported. Those mates.

You seem to want to make the UK domestic election all about a foreign country. What is really weird about this is that the people you are blaming aren't even in power.

No, that's your straw man you are busy building.

The situation within the UK is the consequence of a declining wealth since 1945, various self-immolations like Brexit, economic decisions which have, intended or not, led to growing wealth inequality, and a truly venal kleptocratic government for 14 years.

There's no point pretending à la Corbyn that there are easy answers at zero cost. That ship has sailed.

We live in a market economy. People's salaries and pensions are dependent on businesses doing well, and by extension so are tax receipts. We don't live in a socialist planned economy, so stop pretending that we do.

Why not vote for the Tories then? Or is your post confirmation that there's actually no real difference between the two main parties except the colour?

Why would you not want to get rid of an MP who's built her constituency into one of the largest majorities in the country.

Oh clearly, this is because the Labour Party is 'a broad church'.

Multitool. I'm quite happy for you to advocate for Starmer and the Labour Party, but sometimes you just need to be that critical friend too.

I think I could stand in a heavy downpour of rain without a coat or umbrella and manage to feel less wet afterwards, but I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm.

Thank you, and, I am sure you could.

You don’t think I am actually going to WATCH this drivel do you? ;)

Personally, all I want from any Politician is a clear statement of:

- what they intend to do
- how much they estimate it will cost, initially, then ongoing
- which tax(es) they intend to raise/introduce to fund it
- who will pay said tax(es)

I don’t want vague terms like “the rich”, I want actual numbers.

I accept politicians cannot control everything (I am not even convinced they control anything), so, I am willing to accept adjustments, if circumstances change.

I also accept there is no chance of getting the above.

Starmer's greatest achievement is to have turned Labour into an electable force after only 4 years.

How do you think he did that? By allowing the people who derailed the party in 2019 to keep on derailing it?

It is almost unbelievable that in the context of a crisis of anti-semitism (and it really doesn't matter whether or not it was exaggerated) that Abbott actually went there.

He's copying Johnson. Johnson kicked out traditional Tories from his party in one swoop. It was outrageous because the people get to decide who their MP is, not some jumped up party leader taking it upon themselves to override the right of the electorate. I worry when I see these outrageous attacks being perpetrated on democracy, be they red or blue.

Starmer has his own interest in Israel, he is not without bias himself on the issue.

Would have to agree. Considering she is an experienced politician, it was exceedingly foolish to make the remarks she did. I would seriously question her judgement, if the were my MP.

It was indeed foolish, and a serious lapse of judgement. But I think this business of stringing her along, only to block her once an election is called is an incorrect treatment. I also think that it's a misjudgement by Starmer. People do know that he has personal connections to Israel through his wife, and his treatment of Abbott has a whiff of acting through personal bias, rather than being entirely professional.

ahh! the good old days, we could bring back polio, diphtheria, scarlet fever, I see hooping cough is already making a comeback, who needs these new fangled diseases like Covid?

no problem with junk food then, a slice of white bread, with jam on it, and, maybe a sprinkle of sugar, if the da had a half-shift in

no tablets and mobile phones, children used their imagination, home made bows and arrows, bogies from an old set of pram wheels (provided you didn't have to use the pram to go coal picking on the pit-heap), cricket tournaments with an old tennis ball and wickets chalked on the wall, bays (educational, you had to count to 9) ........ I will have to go and have a lie down, I am coming on all nostalgic.

Times were great, back then.

Funny you should mention Covid...felt carp last night and hey-presto this morning.....
