It's actually a great illustration that shows why private schools flourish. As soon as a state school wants first rate facilities it's portrayed as being unreasonable or greedy. A private school just pays for it and reaps the benefits. You keep forgetting the non-wealthy that also go there. It's like you refuse to believe they exist.Private schools flourish because they are the preserve of the wealthy. There is nothing more to it than that.
Of course - and that's the point. There is no real investment in state schools, and if a state school dares to make an investment in a big infrastructure project it's immediately portrayed as frivolous spending.State schools raising money via the PTA etc is an idea at least as old as I am. Our local comp was trying for years to raise the money for a swimming pool. It never happened though.
