The big problem with Streeting is that he's a slimy f*ck.

Wouldn't trust him as far as I could kick him.

Doesn't mean he won't do some beneficial things.

It's the same in all walks of life...the people who get things done aren't necessarily those you would choose to have as friends. I can thing of one senior person in my workplace who has had, and continues to have (even though he left 6 years ago) a revolutionary impact on everyone for the better. He was incredible to watch and I was in awe. But as a human he was an egotistical arsẹhole. Unbearable. Wouldn't have wanted to spend any time with him outside of work environment.

People have a weird expectation of politicians as people coupled with ridiculous notions of what governments are actually able to do (you see plenty of that here) and demands for increasingly radical actions. You've seen it around this administration with expectations that they mend broken state services instantly and by asking other people (and never themselves) to pay for it.

I've no intention of retiring. I enjoy my job too much. I'd get bored. ^_^

I'll go part-time though or do my own thing but it'll be similar to what I'm doing now.

And I have a nice pension pot as well.
Working beyond retirement age has never really bean a problem, it was down to individual choice. Forcing people to work later and later in life is a problem, there are many physically demanding jobs that many much younger than 60 let alone 70 would be unable to do. This is what happens when you let pencil pushers that think walking down stairs when the lift is out of action is physically demanding.

Unfortunately this country has a declining birthrate and an aging population.

Either we have more immigration or we raise the pension age. Currently there are about 12m over 65s and about 43m working age people. By 2070 there will only be 44m working age people but 17m over 65s, so an old age dependency ratio changing from 280 to 393.

If we want to maintain the same ratio we will have to increase pension age to 71 in 25 years time.

Or import more working age people.

Or, have a greater proportion of the “working age” population actually employed?

Even now the state pension age is above 65.

Would I be right in thinking that depends on productivity? Increase productivity and you don't need the same ratios. Similar?impacts from cutting government costs and/or increasing government income eg stop subsidising hydrocarbons, tax the wealthy, etc.

It's the old buggers that are the problem. I think we should cull them.

I understand legislation is being prepared for that.
