Lies of the state? A large number of the population of this country accept uncritically what they're told.
And probably every country is the same to a greater or lesser extent. But there is a history of changing governments.

It is a question of scale in Russia, and alternatives.

I was thinking of more basic stuff such as our glorious (former) empire and the grateful Commonwealth, or fuel and food poverty is unfortunate but necessary.
Yes, I think we can agree that the Johnson regime is a topical case study but far from unique. The examples you give have been deeply embedded over decades.

Interesting take on things from someone who has been there.

What sort of people were you working with? I seem to remember you worked in IT.
Yes, you remember correctly, I worked in IT.

The cross section I encountered was understandably varied, but, again, as you would expect, mostly people at same level as myself, ie people who, in UK, would own a house, car, have foreign holidays, nothing to grand, I am most certainly, very ordinary. There were a few outliers, eg a University Professor and some manual workers.

I am also the sort who bypasses “attractions”, but, tries to experience the “everyday”, so, bars, shops etc.

As I said, I am sure my experience was not statistically significant. I did get a very big surprise, very little of which was positive. I worked in 4 locations (1 Russia, 3 Ukraine).

Huge difference between Milosevic and the leader of one of the most powerful countries in the world. The Russian people are not used to seeing that their leaders are fallible, having been brainwashed and cowed by their political systems over the years, and would not admit Putin could be a war criminal even if he were to be deposed because that would entail admitting they had either been duped or complicit.

Making things up is so much fun

Seeng Galloway stamping his feet over being designated a Russian mouthpiece is a joy to behold.

Well he obviously knows what Putin's up to.

Or maybe not.
Fancy being best mates with Saddam Hussein and Putin.
That’s some fantasy dinner party.

It’s a link to the Spectator. So open at your own risk. But it does the job on poor old “cat man” George.

What's wrong with the spectator? Did they whow the wrong rainbow flag during pride month?

Didn't know this Galloway guy but according to that article he indeed is, in Putin's behind, and he finds it nice and warm to, so twitters undertitle is correct. But given he is defending an country that says ''we have done no war crimes'' While the evidence is pilling up, the farkers hit a f-cking train station just a few hours ago.. maybe the guy is just a bit off at the point where you can question his sanity

...his sanity has not been in doubt for a looooong time....

As if the Ukrainians haven't suffered enough, this buffone (who made a KGB spy's son a Lord of the realm) arranges a photo op to feign solidarity.

Johnson does nothing that doesn't benefit himself in some way. If anything good arises for Ukraine, well, that'll just be a happy accident.

Spot the PR stunt to divert attention away from serious issues in the UK such as the cost of living crisis and the Chancellor’s alleged tax problems.

But the UK electorate will lap this up.
